Whoa! You are in charge of some websites?!  Clap Clap

Yup, yup!  I currently maintain three separate sites--mine and hubby's personal one (though it hasn't been updated in a while Nervous ), one for my Tae Kwon Do school, and one for work.  I built them all from scratch.  Good thing I like to do that! Wink!

I'm already very familiar with coding since I'm in charge of a few different websites and I build pages by writing raw HTML code.  In fact BBCode is so similar that I find myself trying to enclose things in < > instead of [ ]. Doh!!   This is a great resource for people to refer to!  You're awesome, Inga! Cheer

Yeah, HTML is very similar to BBCode. Shy or Cute

Still around! Can't believe how long it's been~

I've always admire those ppl who created websites. To me, it doesn't look like it's a simple thing to do!  Dazed

Well, I used to do all my HTML by hand.  But then I got dreamweaver...  So much less time consuming!  Very Happy   Although, I am away that I am "cheating".  Very Happy

firefly, don't look at it as 'cheating' - you're being more efficient with your precious time  Wink! I also started in the days of Notepad and vi to code webpages, but love the ability in Dreamweaver to create page templates, which greatly slims down on the up front work to get a site up and running. But I still use the text editor window option to do my php work  Smile

Cheer Congrats on your 100th post Katya! Cheer

I don't think using Dreamweaver is cheating either.  I used to use it when I first started at my job, before I got my own laptop.  I agree that it's a fast and easy way to set up page templates.  I'm certainly not one of those people who thinks that if you don't write all your code by hand that you're "cheating" (I know some people like that, though! Glare ).  For me, I couldn't justify the cost of Dreamweaver when I already have a program that works for me.  It's just faster for me to write and edit the raw code.  But for anyone who needs a wysiwyg program, Dreamweaver is one of the best! EDIT: Haha didn't realise how old this thread was, guess I'm suffering from the new forum setup....... Sorry!!

Akane, Dreamweaver is basically like the Adobe Photoshop of webpages. It's the leading software for webpage creation. In it it you have 3 options for creating webpages - 'Design View' (visual interface, drag and drop, click buttons etc.), 'Code View' (self-explanatory, basically just typing text), or both at the same time (most of the time I use this, so I can use Dreamweavers quick visual interface but also quickly tweak parts manually using the code view).  Cute smile
I like to be very design/look conscious when creating websites so a WYSWIG (What You See Is What You Get) application like this essential as far as I'm personally concerned, so that as I build the site, I can oversee how it's going to look for the user.  Wink!
I'm training to be a website designer... so I use it all the time. But of course I know HTML too, they always start by teaching you HTML (Hyper-Text Markup Language, this is the code that makes up the majority of webpages you see) first on web design courses so that if you have a problem in Dreamweaver you can weed it out manually using the Code View.  Glare

HTML is relatively simple though (yeah it's similar to BBCode tags)... it's when you try and do server-side scripting and web applications that you start having serious headaches.  Very Happy

There are cheap or free alternatives to Dreamweaver though... most famous one is Frontpage which alot of people seem to like. I'm wary of it though after someone asked me to clean up their webpage cos it was playing up and I found that Frontpage had added in a slew of random characters (like "************" for 10 lines) it was like an alien invasion but maybe it's just how you use Frontpage.

I'm happy to answer any questions you have Akane... well to the best of my ability.  Giggle Nervous
