Any digital camera that has a "macro" setting should be fine for photographing Pinky figures. "Macro" is usually indicated on the selection dial by a little flower setting, indicating "close-up" focus.

I use a Canon DSLR camera now, which of course is great for taking Pinky pix. Before that, however, I used an inexpensive Sony Cybershot (the P5 and P10, but this was several years ago) and was able to get decent Pinky photos.

Recently I acquired another smaller point-and-shoot camera, the Canon D10.  It has a "macro" setting, and the few Pinky photos I've tried have turned out fairly well.

Again, "macro" is the necessary setting if you want to take doll and toy photos. Almost all digital cameras have a macro setting, and the macro feature is quite easy to figure out with only a small amount of practice.

Oh, and... happy birthday!   Giggle

I agree with Davidd.

Ultimately, I guess it depends on what your budget is and what you will use it for. If it's just for Pinkies then you could get a smaller camera but if it's for multipurpose then you could look at getting a more advanced camera. I use a Canon DSLR with a macro lens but I could easily use my point and click one too :)

I second what everyone else said.  It depends on how much you're willing to spend.  If you're looking for a nice, cheap camera, either a Canon Powershot or Sony Cybershot are both good point and shoot cameras.  I use a Canon Powershot, and I love it. If you're looking for a DSLR (which are the cameras of the professionals!) , Nikon D40, Nikon D60, or Canon EOS XS are your cheapest DSLRs.

Happy Birthday! Heart

If you are able to try a couple of them out, you should do that. I cannot use any camera but the one i picked out, the settings are easy for me to figure out, but not for my mom.

Apparently, my parents are going to take me to a camera store and I'll bring a pinky to try them out.

And thanks for the help, everyone! Awesome!
