What Makes Us Different?

I've noticed that the Pinky Fandom is generally really really nice and welcoming, but I haven't seen that in  a lot of other places. I found that a bit weird. What makes us so dang nice? Do we act the same way here in other forums and internet communities? Why aren't other forums as cheerful and tight knit?  WTH?! I've been trying to come up with an answer, but I'm still thinking about it...What do you guys think?

They put anti-depressants into the pinky plastic mix?  Very Happy

In more seriousness, I think the subject matter helps... let's seem how do I 'xplain this... OK, anime fans. You go find a bunch of anime fans, and there's a box in the corner. You put it over your head and comment that with this, you can get into the complex and destroy Rex. The anime fans will laugh. They shouldn't- that's a Metal Gear Solid joke, a videogame reference... but enough of them play it that they get it.

This happens in most forums... there's a certain level of shared culture/manners/habits that creates a cliquey atmosphere, and if you slip up you have to go through your 'hazing' to get back in.

We do NOT have that here. We have such a great diversity of ages, locations, walks-of-life really, that there's no chance for this sort of Expected Interests and Behavior to form up. Which means that, as long as you like pinkies, we want your around, even if you have nothing else in common with the other folks here.

Well, that's part of my theory anyway... of course, I care less about why and more that it is that way... it's a refreshing change of pace from most of the internet, I hope it stays that way here forever!

I have no idea, but that's something I notice with scale figure collecting too, I'm a big user of Tsuki-Board, everyone is really nice there too. [Probably why it's my most visited site on my Chrome new tab page.]

I think part of the reason we SEEM so dang nice is that everyone here is intelligent, relaxed, and open-minded. The generally "younger" age range also helps. There aren't a lot of "uptight" people here.

In my case, which some of you may have noticed (Mwah hah hah hah hah!)  Twisted I'm pretty much the same arcane, semi-sarcastic presence I am elsewhere on the internet. But everyone here, being, as I noted, intelligent, relaxed, and open-minded, recognizes humor and irony when they see it, and either appreciates a joke or non sequitur or oddness for the sake of being odd... or they ignore it. Either way works.Nobody gets offended, because everyone realizes that offense is never intended.

Also, people here are internet savvy. They understand how to communicate through, and how to interpret, typewritten text messages. Even without the "context" of a tone of voice or facial expression, people here understand each other, via text formatting, emoticons, or, y'know, stuffs. There's very little miscommunication leading to hurt feelings or misunderstandings. On those rare occasions where conflict arises, everyone is quick to step in with clarifications and, when necessary, apologies.

Which, now that I think about it, brings us full circle, back to... in addition to being intelligent, relaxed, open-minded, youthful (in thought if not always in years), and witty, everyone here is, in fact, pretty dang nice!

We're as sweet and nice as our Pinkys! Giggle

I think DLS explained it quite well.
When I was still into Anime (I still am, but more in the closet Razz! ) I noticed there are different cliques depending on what anime or genre you like. Like the mecha anime fans, the BL fans, the Shoujo fans, the horror fans... etc. etc. So we'd usually just be nice and mix with those who are of the same interest. Whereas for Pinkys... There's just Pinkys! You just like all of them, even though there are different kinds of Pinkys.

I also agree qith davidd. We're all more relaxed and there are no "elitists" or thelike. You know, "woohoo, I have more rare Pinkys than you. Thus that makes me something better. Thus I shall not talk to you." Everyone's equal, I like that. Cute smile

Well, I think that the people who like Pinkies, since Pinkies are so cute and small and adorable, are nice, sweet people themselves, or they wouldn't like such cute 'lil figures!  Heart

From what I can tell, most folks on here and most Pinky:st collectors in general do not take themselves too seriously. There are some communities and some other hobbies that can get very intense, but that intensity does not have to take place here and it does make everything a lot more relaxed and enjoyable for sure!  Shy or Cute

I think it helps that unlike anime, lolita, bjds and even Pullips that Pinky:St is a fairly inexpensive hobby. All common pinkies are nice and cheap compared to other hobbies and circles on the internet where there is more drama.

I agree. I love this board because people are more relaxed. Sometimes people seem like they're more obsessed than they are just into the hobby.  There's no problem with obsessing every now and then but some boards are filled with it...

Also, everyone is so nice and so different here.  It's just a great board.

Collecting...  So addicting?!
